The Westelee Civic Association is a vibrant community hub dedicated to fostering unity, engagement, and progress within our Westelee neighborhood. Nestled in the heart of Shady Side, Maryland we serve as a rallying point for residents who are passionate about enhancing the quality of life in our area.

South of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, 2,800 acres of untouched nature, lies Shady Side, a quiet, water-privileged area for those looking to get back to the quiet life.

Shady Side curls out into the Chesapeake Bay and borders the West River on its west side. The census-designated place is home to several smaller enclaves, including West River Plantation, Avalon Shores and our own community of Westelee. Despite the seclusion, it’s within driving distance from Washington, D.C., Annapolis and Baltimore.

Through collaboration, advocacy, and collective action, we strive to create a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable neighborhood where everyone feels valued and connected.

What We Do:

That’s why we organize a variety of events, from neighborhood clean-ups and BBQ’s to community celebrations. These events provide opportunities for residents to come together, share ideas, and forge friendships that transcend barriers.

Whether it’s advocating for improved public safety, better infrastructure, or increased access to green spaces, we work tirelessly to ensure that our neighborhood’s interests are represented and respected.
